Ajmer: Resident doctor at JLN Hospital commits suicide

Jaipur: A resident doctor posted in ENT Unit of Jawahar Lal Nehru (JLN) Hospital in Ajmer committed suicide suspectedly by an overdose of prescription drugs on Friday night. The doctor’s mother couldn’t bear the loss and ended her life after she heard of her son’s suicide, according to preliminary reports. The medical fraternity in Ajmer was saddened over the shocking incident.

The doctor, identified as Akshay Kumar Ankare, is a resident of Mumbai. He lived in a rented accommodation in the Civil Lines area of Ajmer. He returned home from the hospital in the evening and inserted a canula into his hand veins. He then injected himself with prescription drugs. Police suspect that he died of an overdose. Videography of the spot was conducted. Police have launched an investigation as to why the doctor ended his life. No suicide note was found.

Some colleagues informed the police about the suicide. The colleagues called him up repeatedly but didn’t get any response. Some of them went to his rented accommodation and found the door locked from inside. They informed seniors doctors at the hospital who then informed the police. The cops broke open the door to gain entry. The victim was lying on the bed. JLN Medical College principal Dr VB Singh and several other senior doctors rushed to the spot.

The body has been put in the mortuary of a hospital for post-mortem examination. According to preliminary reports, when the police informed the victim’s family members about the suicide, his mother couldn’t bear the loss and ended her life.
