Ajmer: Girls raped, blackmailed in name of career in sports

Jaipur: Some girls from a village near Ajmer were sexually exploited and blackmailed on the basis of videos showing them in a compromising situation. A complaint in this regard was registered against some youths with Ramganj police station in Ajmer on Tuesday night. Only one of these girls has reportedly come forward and will likely register a complaint. The girls were sexually harassed by youths after being promised the opportunity to play in national games, sources said.

The girls are residents of nearby villages. They attend classes at the same education institute in Ajmer. Some students first sexually exploited them after promising a career in sports and then shot videos showing them in a comprising situation. The girl didn’t come forward fearing social backlash, but when the videos went viral, the girls were identified to be a resident of a nearby village.

A meeting of senior residents of the village took place in which the girls complained that they were sexually exploited at Ajmer and Mount Abu. In the panchayat meeting, the residents first thought of approaching the police, but it was later dropped because they feared it would bring disrepute to their village.

The sexual exploitation is believed to have started about two years ago. The role of a teacher is under scanner as the girls who earlier used to play Volleyball at a senior secondary school were advised by him to enroll in another coaching student and pursue a career in Kabaddi. He started taking the girls on tours to places outside Ajmer.
After reports to this effect surfaced in local media, senior police officers of Ajmer range swung into action and ordered a probe.
