Ahmedabad engineering student drowns in Udaipur pond

The victim had come to Ubeshavar Mahadev temple with his friends for a picnic.

Jaipur: A 19-year-old engineering student from Ahmedabad, identified as Vikas Mishra, drowned in a pond at Ubeshavar Mahadev temple in Udaipurs’ Nai police station area in Udaipur. Vikas came to Udaipur for a picnic with his two friends – Vivek patel and Soham Patel on August 18. He and his friends were taking a bath in the pond when Vikas was swept away. Vikas body was recovered on Sunday.

“Vikas had come to Udaipur on Saturday. He has some friends in Udaipur also. They organized a picnic and came to Ubeshavar Mahadev temple on the outskirts of Udaipur. There is a pond near the temple where people take bath,” said a police officer.

The officer said that Vikas ventured into the middle of the pond. He was drowned in the pond. His friends tried to rescue him, but couldn’t. they informed the police following which a rescue team tried to find the body, but it was dark by the time rescue operation was launched. It was called off. Drivers started to look for the body in the morning and fished it out of the pond. Vikas’s dead body was taken to the mortuary of a hospital.

The family members were informed about the tragedy.

A postmortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.
