AEn trap in Kota: ACB unearths properties worth crores of rupees

Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has unearthed properties worth crores of rupees belonging to assistant engineer (AEn) of Ataru water resources department, Mohan Lal Sharma. The AEn was arrested for allegedly taking Rs 10 lakh from a contractor. The ACB officials said that they recovered documents suggesting ownership of 11 houses, plots, argriculture land, Rs 1.17 lakh and silver and gold jewellery in huge quantity.
Mohan Lal and his family members own two hostels worth crores of rupees in the posh Talwandi area of Kota. Other properties are in Karauli and Gangapur City .
The ACB had arrested Mohan Lal Sharma on Thursday. The agency got a tip off that some water resources department officials were on their way to Kota after taking bribe from a contract. Their car was intercepted and searched. The ACB team seized Rs 10 lakh from Mohan Lal Sharma, while Rs 66,000 from XEn Satyendra.
The ACB officials had received complaints that some public works department officials awarded projects only on the condition that the contractor would pay them a commission from 2 percent to 10 percent.
Mohan Lal Sharma had overseen many big projects in the recent years. The search at his house and other places belonging to him was completed by Friday. The ACB officials said that further investigation is going on.
