Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has arrested Dr Anil Gupta after he was caught taking a bribe of Rs 2000, officials said. Dr Gupta was demanding the bribe to conduct a piles surgery. It is for the second time that the doctor has been arrested on corruption charges. Earlier in 2014, he was caught taking a bribe of Rs 15,00.
One Bihari Lal Koli registered a complaint against Dr Gupta. In the complaint, he stated that the doctor was demanding Rs 3,000 from him for a piles operation. He had already taken Rs 1,000 from him.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB led a trap under the supervision of Bharatpur Add SP, ACB Prameshwar Lal. The doctor was caught red-handed, officials said. He allegedly manhandled the ACB team when they tried to get the money from his pocket.
Dr Gupta was suspended in 2014 after the first ACB trap. However, he was reinstated in 2018. The department enquiry was still pending against him.
The ACB has registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Dr Gupta. He was taken into custody and later arrested. He is due to retire in 2025.
