Jaipur: A day after ACB arrested technical assistance deputed in the ministry of road transport and highways Sitaram Varma and XEn Dan Singh Meena for taking a bribe of Rs 50,000, the agency conducted a search at the former’s house in Jaipur and found nearly Rs 48 lakh cash. The majority of the cash amount was found hidden an inconspicuous locker in an almirah in the house. A currency note counting machine was used for counting the cash amount.
Varma and Meena were arrested after they were allegedly caught red-handed for taking the bribe to issue an NOC for a petrol in Bikaner’s Nokha town.
ADG, ACB Dinesh MN said that Sitaram has a four-storey house in Jaipur. Another building belonging to him is under construction on a plot adjacent to it. ACB also found three luxury cars and documents suggesting ownership of many properties and bank accounts. The key to a bank locker was also found. The ACB has initiated the process to seal the bank accounts and search the locker.
The ACB is planning to register a case of disproportionate wealth as Sitaram and his family allegedly couldn’t give a satisfactory answer to the source of the cash found in the house.
A Bikaner-based man had approached the ACB and registered a complaint against Varma and Meena. The complaint was verified. Dan Singh had been a student at IIT-Mumbai. He is 27 years old and was selected in Indian Engineering Service.
