Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested the additional administrative officer posted in Public Works Department (PWD) in Sikar after he was allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 20,000. The accused officer, Chataruram, was demanding the bribe from a contractor to approve the payment bills for PWD works.

DG ACB BL Soni said that as per the agency complainant, he had undertaken some works for the PWD and the payment bills were pending. The officer was not approving the contractor’s payment bills and harassing him. He demanded a bribe amount of Rs 82,000 to approve the bills.

Add SP ACB Zakir Akhtar verified the complaint and when it was found genuine, a trap was laid. DG Soni said that Chataruram had already taken Rs 25,000 from the ACB complainant and when he was accepting Rs 20,000 – the second installment of the bribe amount – on Wednesday, he was caught red-handed. He was taken into custody and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

ADG Dinesh MN said that searches are being carried out at various places including the residence and office belonging to the accused officer. Further investigation is going on.
