ACB trap: Jhalawar Jailer demands bribe from inmate for prison facilities; arrested

Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a jailor – Karan Singh – after he was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. The jailer – currently posted in Jhalawar district jail, had demanded money from an inmate to provide him facilities and not to harass him. He was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
DG, ACB BL Soni said that Kota rural branch of the agency received a complaint from the family member of an inmate currently lodged in Jhalawar district jail. The complainant alleged that Karan was demanding Rs 20,000 from the inmate. In exchange, he promised better facilities and protection against harassment in the jail.
An ACB team under the supervision of Add SP, ACB Dr Prerana Shekhawat verified the complaint and when found it genuine, laid a trap. Karan Singh was allegedly caught red-handed accepting Rs 10,000.
Searches are being carried out at the office, residence, and other places belonging to the accused Jailer. Karan Singh is a resident of Borkheda area in Kota.
In another trap, ACB arrested the chairman of Saras Dairy in Tonk along after his middleman was caught taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. Chairman, identified as Durgalal Jat, was allegedly demanding the bribe to extend the milk supply tender for one year.
