Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested constable Sanjay Singh – posted in CID-SSB branch of Bharatpur zone after he was allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a BEd college owner. The constable had demanded Rs 45 lakh for covering up the alleged irregularities in the complainant’s college. Rs 5 lakh was the first instalment of the bribe, according to ACB, DG Alok Tripathi.

The complainant told the ACB that he runs a BEd college in Hindaun town of Bharatpur district. Someone registered a bogus complaint against the college with CID-SSB. Citing the bogus complaint, constable Sanjay Singh was demanding Rs 1 crore. Later, he agreed to accept Rs 45 lakh.

The ACB verified the complaint and laid a trap. Under the suevisoin of Add SP ACB Narottam Verma, constable Sanjay Singh was caught taking the bribe red-handed, DG Tripathi said.

The officer added that Sanjay Singh was demanding the bribe after he came to know that a clerk Shiv Singh posted at SP Bharatpur’s office had earlier taken Rs 25 lakh from the same college owner.

“Sanjay Singh threatened that the complainant would have to pay the bribe just like he paid to Shiv Singh. The constable has been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
