ACB trap: Doctor arrested for taking bribe of Rs 1000 in Tonk

Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a paediatrician in Tonk after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 1000 for treating a pregnant woman. The doctor, identified as Gyanendra Bansal is a resident of Jagatpura area in Jaipur and currently posted as chief paediatrician at Zanana (Women’s) Hospital in Tonk.

According to the ACB officials, one Fareed Khan approached the agency and registered a complaint against Bansal. Fareed’s wife Parveen was admitted to Zanana hospital for treatment. The woman is pregnant. Dr Bansal demanded Rs 1,200 to treat the woman, said ACB official. The agency verified the complaint. The ACB complainant negotiated with the doctor. The latter agreed to take Rs 1,000.

The ACB allegedly caught Dr Bansal red-handed taking the bribe. The ACB team also recovered Rs 1.54 lakh from the doctor. The money was seized. An FIR under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the doctor and he was arrested.

Searches at his office, residence and other places belonging to him were going on till the reports last came in. He will be produced in a court on Wednesday.
