Jaipur: The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday seized Rs 3.70 lakh in suspicious cash from the possession of Mahendra Singh, an assistant engineer posted at Nagar Palika Anta in Baran district, during a surprise check on Bayana Road in Hindaun City.
ACB Director General Govindar Gupta said the bureau’s headquarters had received intelligence that Mahendra Singh had allegedly amassed a large amount of illicit money and was planning to travel to his home in Hindaun City, Karauli district, on Friday evening or Saturday morning.
Acting on these inputs, the ACB’s Karauli unit, led by Police Inspector Jagdish Bhardwaj and supervised by Deputy Inspector General Dr Rameshwar Singh, intercepted Mahendra Singh on Bayana Road in Hindaun City. During the search, Rs 3,70,000 in cash was recovered from his possession.
The assistant engineer was unable to provide any satisfactory explanation or documentary evidence to account for the large sum, according to the ACB. The cash was subsequently seized and detailed questioning is under way.
The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of ACB Additional Directors General Smita Srivastava and S Parimala. The bureau said it would pursue further investigation under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
