ACB searches at ACTO’s house unearth assets worth crores of rupees

Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) seized Rs 53.13 lakh cash and jewellery worth about Rs 17 lakh from the house and other places belonging toassistant commercial tax officer (ACTO) who was arrested on Friday for allegedly taking a bribe along with retired LDC Ravi Pareek. The agency has also recovered documents related to 21 bank accounts, FDs worths lakhs of rupees, locker, insurance policies and ownership of several cars including an Audi. She and Ravi Pareek were produced in a court that remanded them in judicial custody.  

The officer – Anshuiya Kumari – was caught while accepting the bribe for issuing a refund though LDC Ravi Pareek, ACB officials said. The ACB booked them under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and carried searches at the officer’s residence and other places belonging to her.

“The searches were completed by Saturday. We have recovered wealth disproportionate to the officer’s known sources of income. We are still in the process of totalling the value of all movable and immovable properties found in the name of the officer and her family members,” said a senior ACB officer.

 He added that the bank accounts and lockers have been sealed and will be searched in the coming days.

According to senior ACB officials, a complaint had been received against the officer. As per the complaint, she was demanding a 20% commission for issuing a refund. After receiving the complaint, the ACB verified it and when it was found genuine, a trap was laid. The ACB complainant negotiated with the officer and agreed to pay 15% of the refund amount as bribe, the officials said.

The trap was laid under the supervision of ACB Add SP Narottam Varma.
