Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer, identified as Sunil Jhingonia, for accepting Rs 50,000 bribe. The officer is currently posted as sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Lasadiya of Udaipur district. He was allegedly demanding the bribe from a mine operator.

DG ACB BL Soni said that the mine owner had registered a complaint with the agency against Sunil Jhingonia. The complainant alleged that his mining work was operating as per regulations, but the SDM stopped it. Sunil demanded the bribe to allow him to resume the work. The officer demanded Rs 50,000 bribe and threatened to implicate the complainant in regulatory prohibitions if he didn’t oblige, Soni said.

A unit of ACB Chittorgarh verified the complaint. When found genuine, a trap was laid under the supervision of Add SP Sachin Sharma.

The SDM was caught the bribe following which he was taken into custody and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB is carrying out searches at the office, residence, and other places belonging to the accused officer.

“Further investigation is going on,” said DG Soni. He added that people should come forward and register corruption complaints. If requested, their identity would be kept confidential, Soni said.
