Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested senior section engineer (SSE) of Uttar Pradesh railways after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 85,000 in Bharatpur. He was demanding the bribe to release payment to a railway contractor, ACB officials said adding that the amount was a percentage being demanded as commission.

The accused SSE Rakesh Kumar Meena is a resident of Dholpur district in Rajasthan and was deputed in Agra. He was allegedly demanding bribe from Chandrashekhar Sharma who runs Vidhya construction in Bharatpur.

“Chandrashekhar registered a complaint with the ACB saying that SSE Rakesh was asking for commission to release the payment of work he undertook for the railways. Chandrashekhar’s firm had laid some cables for the railways,” said an ACB officer.

The officer added Rakesh assured Chandrashekhar that his payment would be released promptly and he would get more work in the future if he paid the bribe.

When the complaint was found genuine, a team of Bharatpur ACB laid the trap. Rakesh was caught red-handed accepting the bribe at the office of Vidhya Constructions in Bharatpur, the officer.

He was arrested and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Further investigation is going on.
