ACB arrests deputy jailer, advocate for taking Rs 20,000 bribe in Banswara

Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested deputy jailer of Banswara jail, Syed Ameer Ali after an advocate was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 at the his behest, ACB officials said. The deputy jailer was allegedly demanding the bribe from a woman for not harassing her husband and relatives who were lodged in the jail and allow her to visit them. Both were booked under various section of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is going on.

According to DG, ACB BL Soni, the Banswara unit of ACB received a complaint regarding this. The complainant stated that her husband and a few relatives were lodged in the district prison. Deputy jailer was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 for not harassing the imprisoned husband and relatives and allow her to visit them. The demands were made through an advocate, identified as Azhar Ahmed.

Add SP of Banswara ACB Madho Singh verified the complaint. When it was found genuine, a trap was laid, DG Soni said adding that the advocate was caught red-handed accepting Rs 20,000 from the agency complainant.

The deputy jailer is a resident of Pratapgarh district. He was earlier posted in Udaipur. During his posting in Udaipur, ACB had registered a similar case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

ADG ACB Dinesh MN said that accused persons are being interrogated.
