Jaipur: A bus taking 55 pilgrims to Hardwar met with a tragic accident on Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway near Udaipur on Saturday. Nine people were killed while at least 24 others were injured in the mishap. The injured people were admitted in a hospital in Udaipur. The condition of some of them is stated to be critical.

The mishap occurred outside a school near Naila village. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was on its way when two bikes came in front of it. In order to avoid collision with the bikes, the bus driver applied breaks. A truck coming from behind rammed into the bus. It overturned due to the impact. The uncontrolled bus rammed into three bikes before overturning.

People who arrived at the spot were shocked to see the blood everywhere on and around the spot where the mishap occurred.

A police team immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Local residents also helped the police pull the victims out of the bus.

The glass windows had to be smashed in order to pull the victims out as they were stuck in the bus.

There were reports that some anti-social elements snatched away gold ornaments from the victims when they were lying unconscious. The police, however, didn’t confirm this.

Senior administration and police officials including Udaipur district collector Vishnu Charan Malik and SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal visited the spot.

Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and other politicians expressed grief over the incident. Raje tweeted that all possible help was being extended to the victims.
