Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has added 824 types of free drugs and medicines to the state’s Free Medicine Scheme.

Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to offer as many as 1795 free medicines and surgical items for the cure of various diseases. The step will help those who can’t afford to purchase expensive medicines from private drug stores.

The newly added medicines and surgical items are related to neuro, cardiac, arthritis, eyes, general medicines, growth hormones, diabetes, gastro, new antibiotics, IVF, antifungal, organ transplant liver cirrhosis, blood pressure, vitamins and cancer.

The Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited (RMSCL) has been preparing to add these medicines and surgical items for the past six months.

“We have already made a list of all the medicines and surgical items we will add to the free medicine scheme. We are trying that the supply starts as early as August,” said an officer.

According to a ranking issued by the central government, RMSCL ranks first in the country in terms of the supply of free medicines, followed by Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

“Tenders have already been issued, so all the preparations have been made in this regard. We are trying to make sure that the supply begins in August,” said the officer.
