7500 people arrested; 91,000 vehicles seized for lockdown violations in Rajasthan

Jaipur: The state police have seized nearly 7,500 vehicles and arrested 91,000 people for violating lockdown guidelines over the past one month. The police have also registered about 900 FIRs for lockdown violations and 137 FIRs for spreading rumours about coronavirus on social media during the same period.
ADG, crime BL Soni told media persons that the police in Rajasthan is making all possible efforts to ensure that the people comply with lockdown guidelines.
“Social distancing is the only way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The government had imposed restrictions last month, but many people violated the lockdown guidelines. Many of these violators were arrested and their vehicles sized,” said ADG Soni.
He added that 91,145 vehicles were seized when the people were found venturing out of their homes for no reason during lockdown. Over 166,800 vehicles were challaned. The police arrested 7417 people under section 144 of CrPC and 117 people for spreading rumours. As many as 137 FIRs have been registered for spreading rumours. The total number of FIRs registered for violating lockdown guidelines is 898.
The police have also collected a penalty amount of Rs 2.5 crore since March 22.
The police on Monday arrested 15 people in Bharatpur for not wearing masks in public places. Masks have been made mandatory in the state under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Those who are arrested for not wearing masks can be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 1 years/fine or both.
As many as 85 new COVID-19 cases surfaced in the state till Tuesday afternoon. Of them 63 were reported in Jaipur alone. The coronavirus cases count has reached 1659.
