Falahari Baba rape attempt case
Jaipur: Falahari Baba was arrested on Saturday three days after an FIR was registered against him for raping a 21-year-old law intern at his ashram in Alwar.
The baba had been admitted to a private hospital after complaining of high blood pressure, but the police got a medical examination conducted at a government hospital in Alwar. The police got a report from the medical board on Friday. It declared him fit following which the falahari baba was arrested.
According to preliminary reports, the accused baba has been booked under section 376 of IPC for rape.
The Alwar police have registered an FIR three days ago. The alleged incident took place on August 7.
The girl was pursuing a law course in Jaipur and had got a scholarship in July and internship with a Supreme Court lawyer. Her family members had been followers of the self-styled monk for the past several years.
When the girl got her first salary as an intern, she visited baba’s ashram in Alwar district to seek his blessings. She alleged that Falahari Baba drugged her and attempted to rape her at the ashram.
The girl hails from Bilaspu in Chhattisgarh. After Ram Rahim was convicted, she told her family members about the incident. They took her to senior police officers in Bilaspur who registered zero number FIR as the incident didn’t took place in their jurisdiction. They then sent the FIR to Alwar police for further investigation.
The girl alleged that Falahari Baba boasted of his influence. He told her that he had helped many become IAS and IPS officers, MLAs and even ministers. Falahari Baba allegedly assured her that he would help her become a judge.
After getting arrested, baba pleaded before the police that he could not have raped the girl as he was ‘impotent’.
Police have stepped up security at the ashram and several other places in Alwar to maintain law and order. Police’s intelligence department has also been alerted to keep a watch on his followers and to ensure that they don’t create any ruckus.
Falahari Baba is being kept at a government hospital in Alwar and he is under the observation of a team of doctors.
