7 killed in Bundi as house caves in after heavy rains

Jaipur: Seven members of a family were killed when their house caved in after heavy rains in Keshoraipatan area of Bundi district on Wednesday. The victims include four children. The bodies were put in a mortuary after being pulled out of the debris.

The incident took place Navghat. It is believed that a wall constructed along the banks of Chambal river by the local civic bodies collapsed on the house of the victims after heavy rains. The house was buried under the wall. Seven deceased were identified as Meera (40), Tamanna (9), Mahendra (35), Anita (32), Dipika (7), Kanha (5), and Khushi (10). There were eight people in the house when the incident took place; however, Mahaveer, husband of Meera – rushed out on hearing a loud thud. It saved him.

In yet another incident, four children, residents of Ras area in Pali, drowned in a pond that was filled with rainwater. The children had climbed into the pond to take a bath and swim. Two of the victims were siblings. Those killed were identified as Asif Teli, Azaz Khan, Mukesh Meghwal, and Ajay Meghwal.

The pond was about 8-9 feet deep. Sources said that it had been dug up under MNERGA. The bodies were handed over to the family members after a postmortem examination.
