651 candidates fighting in Rajasthan assembly elections are Crorepatis: Report

JAIPUR: Out of the 1,875 candidates contesting in the Rajasthan assembly elections, 651 are reported to be crorepatis, with the BJP and Congress parties having 88 and 84 crorepatis candidates respectively.
As many as 326 of these candidates have criminal charges against them, with 236 facing serious criminal charges. Almost 67% of the CPI(M) candidates are embroiled in criminal cases.
The Association for Democratic Reforms, a watchdog NGO, has disclosed these statistics for the candidates in the 2023 assembly elections.
Among the major parties, 176 out of 200 BJP candidates and 160 out of 199 Congress candidates have Crorepati status. In contrast, 20% of the BSP’s 86 candidates are crorepatis, and the RLP, fielding 78 candidates, has 36 crorepatis. The CPI(M) has 18 candidates, with 5 being crorepatis.
When it comes to criminal cases, 67% of CPI(M) candidates have charges filed against them. The RLP stands at 31%, BJP at 21%, and both Congress and AAP have 17% of their candidates facing criminal charges.
There are 36 candidates with cases related to crimes against women, 34 with charges of attempted murder, four with murder charges, and one with a rape charge against him.
