Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot on Tuesday lashed out at the BJP government in the state, accusing it of being anti-farmer. Pilot said that farmers suicides were unheard of during the previous Congress government, but since BJP came to power, as many as 61 farmers have committed suicide due to debts and neglect from the government.

Pilot said Congress party workers would stage protests at all district headquarters in the state to draw the attention of the government to the plight of farmers.

“BJP made many promises before the elections, but when it came to power in Rajasthan three years ago, it forgot everything about these promises. Farmers have been completely neglected in Rajasthan and they are feeling cheated,” said Pilot addressing a press conference in Jaipur.

He said that the Congress party’s first and foremost demand is to waive off debts.

“BJP leaders promised that debt of farmers would be waived off, but nothing has been done in this regard,” said Pilot.

Other demands were an increase in minimum support price up to 50 percent and providing bonus and subsidies to farmers, he said.

Pilot condemned the death of farmers in police firing in Mandsaur.
