Jaipur: In order to deal with the problem of shortage of manpower, Rajasthan police will soon recruit 5500 police constables. The home department has given its nod to the recruitment proposal after finance department gave its financial approval. The home department has written to the Rajasthan police headquarters to start the recruitment process.

Sources said that the process may begin by next month. Recruitment will be on the basis of vacancies. Vacancies will be calculated in each district and those where there are maximum number of vacancies will be given priority.

Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje had announced in her budget speech the government would recruit 5500 police constables.

The police headquarters had written to the home department for administrative and financial approval of the project.

The home department received financial approval from the finance department and gave its nod to star the recruitment process.

Rajasthan police is facing severe shortage of manpower. As posts of constables lying vacant, day-to-day policing work is getting affected.

“Since we have to use the existing manpower for law and order and VIP security apart from day-to-day policing work, it takes a toll of disposal of cases. Recruitment of 5500 police constables would be a great help in reducing the pendency of cases and workload,” said a senior police officer.
