Jaipur: The body of a 55-year-old woman, identified as Neeta Rana, was found floating in Amber stepwell in Jaipur on Sunday morning. A rescue team roped in by the police fished out the body with the help of local residents. Police said that the woman belonged to Gujarat and her son worked in Bangkok. The postmortem examination would be conducted in the presence of her family members.
Neeta Rana was staying alone in a house in Johari Bazaar. According to neighbors, she had left home to buy some medicines around 6 pm on Saturday. The police are investigating how she reached Amber and drowned in the pond.
Police quizzed many local residents but no one saw her in the area prior to the recovery of the body.
The police are yet to reach a conclusion whether it was a suicide or she was murdered. Further investigation is going on.
