Jaipur: Nearly 50,000 chemist shops in Rajasthan including 5000 in Jaipur alone will remain closed on Tuesday in support of the nationwide strike called by All India Organization of Chemist and Druggists.

Rajasthan Chemist Association and Jaipur Chemist Association has extended full support to the strike.

Chemists are protesting against the online sale of medicine and the government’s e-portal plan among other decisions taken by the government that the organizations said are not in the interest of people as well as pharmacists.

“Online sale of medicines is not a practical step taken by the government,” said Amrish Kaushik, president of the Jaipur Chemist Association.

Chemists said that the government is stressing upon the online sale of medicines which is not in line with the various sections of the Drug and Chemist Act. Fraudsters would use the Internet to sell medical drugs online, they said adding that no matter what method was used to sell medicines, the law should not be violated.

The associations will also hand over a memorandum to chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

Nearly 50000 chemists will be affected if the central government implemented its scheme of allowing online sale of medicines.
