Jaipur: A 5-year-old girl who was in the city to visit her grandmother was crushed to death by an overspeeding van in Jaipur’s Amber area on Tuesday. The van driver fled the spot after killing the girl. The police have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved in this hit-and-run case.

The mishap occurred on Amber Road in the morning. The girl Tammna was a resident of Gurgaon. She had come to visit her maternal grandmother in Jaipur along with her mother.

Her grandmother, her mother and other relatives were taking him to Sheela Mata Temple. They were walking towards the temple from Amber Road holding the hand of her mother when the overspeeding van hit her from behind. The impact was so intense that the girl was thrown at least 10 feet from the spot.

The mother fell unconscious after witnessing the incident.

The relatives rushed the girl to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The police put up barricades at several places in the city, but couldn’t trace the driver after he fled from the spot.

The police are examining footages of CCTVs installed in the area to identify the vehicle; however, they have not got any concrete clues.

“We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.

The family members were inconsolable. Tammna had come to Jaipur a few days ago to spend her summer holidays with her grandmother.

The cops handed over the body to family members after a postmortem examination.
