Ease of Living Index: Jaipur languishes at 30th position

Jaipur: Ease of Living Index released by the central government on Monday reflects poor management of civic amenities in Jaipur. The Pink City secured 30th rank on the list of 111 cities in the country. Pune in Maharashtra topped the list.
Frequent interruption in power supply and poor quality of education, health services and day-to-day civic amenities are among some of the reasons for Jaipur – a globally popular destination among tourists – to perform so poorly in the Ease of Living Index.
Five cities of Rajasthan – Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota – were included in the ‘Sugam Jeevan Survey’ carried out by the government. The ease of living standards was found to be very poor in all these cities. While Ajmer secured the 51th rank, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Kota secured the 53rd, 54th and 58th positions.
Ease of Living Index was based on four parameters – governance, social institutions, economic and physical infrastructure. There were further broken down into 15 categories and 78 indicators.
A government statement said the Ease of Living assessment standards is closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals, which will provide a strong impetus to India’s effort for systematic tracking progress of SDGs in the urban areas.
