4 Karni Vihar cops sent to Lines for ‘beating’ man at police station, enquiry ordered

Four police officials of Karni Vihar police station in Jaipur has been sent to police lines for allegedly beating an old man identified as Vednath Choudhary, who died while undergoing treatment on Monday.

Jaipur: Four police officials of Karni Vihar police station in Jaipur has been sent to police lines for allegedly beating an old man identified as Vednath Choudhary, who died while undergoing treatment on Monday.

Four police officials including two constable and two sub inspectors were removed from active duty and sent to police lines on Tuesday. Further investigation is going on, said a senior police officer.

DGP OP Galhotra directed senior police officials to initiate a disciplinary action and form a committee to probe the allegations that the man was beaten up and abused at the police station.

Rajasthan home minister Gulab Chand Kataria said a strict action will be taken against policemen if the allegations are found genuine.

As reported earlier, a man identified as Vednath Choudhary died shortly after he went to Karni Vihar police station to get the bike of his son that had been seized by the police.

His family members alleged that Choudhary was allegedly mistreated and beaten by the police officials on Monday.His relatives staged a protest outside the police station demanding punishment for the accused police officials.

According to the relatives of the dead man, Vednath Choudhary reached police station with bike papers and protested against the policemen beating up his son. Some policemen allegedly started abusing Vednath for defending his son.

They then allegedly started beating Vednath and threw him out of the police station due to which he lost consciousness, the family members alleged. His relatives took him to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
