We can’t stop wondering about a few crazy incidents that even the nerdiest guys in the city took notice of and shouted – WHAT THE HELL!!!

Jaipur: 2017 has almost come to an end and in many aspects, it was a great year. Jaipur Metro has now become a routine part of our lives and people have grown so accustomed to it that they are saying – What’s this fuss about Metro? Frankly speaking, these people were so awestruck when Metro was launched back in 2015 that they were among the first ones to take a ride just for the fun of it.
Now that the year is almost behind us, we can’t stop wondering about a few crazy incidents that even the nerdiest guys in the city took notice of and shouted – WHAT THE HELL!!!
Jasprit Bumrah and Jaipur traffic police
Do you remember the overindulgence in creativity that our traffic police department showed to teach us a lesson on how we should take care of our safety on the city roads?
When the Indian team’s humiliating 180-run defeat by Pakistan already had our nerves frayed, Jaipur traffic police came up with an amazing ad. And it said,
‘Don’t Cross The Line. You Know It Can Be Costly’
The cops were referring to Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s no-ball to Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman in the ICC Champions Trophy final. This no-ball was blamed by many as the reason for the country’s defeat.
Bumrah had overstepped when the Pakistani opener was caught behind by wicketkeeper MS Dhoni. However, Fakhar was recalled after replays showed that Bumrah had bowled a no ball and the southpaw went on to score a century as Pakistan posted 338 for four in their 50 overs.
The cops ended up apologizing to Bumrah when he took to Twitter to raise his objection. They removed the ads from public places and the city traffic department’s Facebook page, but many in Jaipur still believe that this advertisement was a stroke of genius.
People were thrilled to know that our big belly cops had got the brains to come up with such a creative ad at such a short notice.
Peacocks don’t have sex
Social media addicts across the country had a field day when former Rajasthan high court judge Mahesh Chandra Sharma commented that India’s national bird peacock don’t have sex.
The comment left many Jaipurites wondering – is this why they are on the verge of extinction?
A bull kills a foreigner and people say – ‘selfie le raha hoga’
When you watch Fast and Furious – 7, the action sequences are so good that you feel a chill go down your spine.
An Argentine national who had been a part of the team that created these amazing sequences was killed by a bull in the heart of the city.
A day after the incident, I was sitting at a thadi, minding my own business and sipping chai when someone reading a newspaper commented to no one in particular,
‘Ye foreigner bhi na pagal hote hain. Selfie le raha hoga. Ab isme bail ki kya galati hai! (These foreigners are crazy people. He was probably taking a selfie with the bull. How was the animal at fault?)’
JDA shows how insensitive civic authorities in Jaipur are
‘Zameen Samadhi’ was a way of protest that left many in Jaipur feel sad for over a 1000 farmers at Ninder village near the city. The agriculture land of these farmers was acquired by the JDA for a housing project.
Despite the protests that went on for several days, the JDA didn’t budge. No senior politician or bureaucrat bothered to even visit them, while the protest was covered by national and in some cases international media.
Are you aware of any other incidents that should make it to this list?
