Jaipur: Phase 3 of COVID-19 vaccination in which senior citizens are to be vaccinated began on Monday. People aged at least 60 years and those aged 45 years who are suffering from ailments are being vaccinated in the third phase.
Seventy-two-year-old Mangala Dixit – a retired government officer – was the first person to get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at SMS Hospital. She was accompanied by her younger sister Veerbala Joshi (66), brother Dinesh Dwivedi (64), and Suresh Joshi (70) to get vaccinated.
When asked if she had any concerns about the vaccination, Mangala said that the prime minister of India got himself vaccinated.
“If he is not scared, why should I be?,” she told media persons. She said that everyone should come forward and get vaccinated.
Apart from this, his younger sister Virbala Joshi also got vaccinated.
There have been reports of a delay in vaccination as elderly people had to wait at hospitals across the state due to glitches in the registration system. In fact, those who showed up at the satellite hospital in Bikaner for vaccination had to return without it after waiting for a couple of hours. They were told that vaccination would not take place on Monday and that they would get information about the next date and time via an SMS.
Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra also received the first dose of COVID-19 at Raj Bhawan.
