39 new COVID-19 cases in Jaipur in a day; man dies

Jaipur: The number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rose at a record pace in Jaipur on Sunday with 39 people testing positive for the virus. The number of cases across the state went up by 47. Jaipur has now become the epicentre of Coronavirus spread. There were reports that an employee in the SMS Hospital’s food mess also tested positive, creating scare among doctors, medical college students and patients.

This is the largest rise of COVID-19 cases in Jaipur in a day. Most of the people found infected in Jaipur on Saturday were either members of Tablighi Jamaat or relatives of the people who earlier tested positive. They were admitted to NIIMS and RUHS Hospitals.

Around 1 am on Sunday, an 82-year-old man belonging to Ghatgate area of Jaipur died of Coronavirus infection at SMS Hospital. He had been undergoing treatment since April 4.

There were reports that a man who worked in SMS Hospital’s mess tested positive. The man belonged to Ramganj area.

Others who tested positive include three people who were evacuated from Iran, 2 in Dausa and one each in Tonk and Nagaur. The total number of cases in Rajasthan have crossed 250.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday took a meeting of senior officials and instructed them to ensure that the lockdown and curfew restrictions are imposed strictly. He also asked the officials not to use Tablighi Jamaat in the Coronavirus reports complied on a daily basis.
