Jaipur: Income Tax department on Saturday carried out the biggest ever action against benami properties in Rajasthan.
Under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, the IT department teams attached 38 benami properties belonging to a prominent builder and developer group. The properties located in Amber, Sanganer, Chaksu, Sirsi, Jamwaramgarh and Shahpura are worth nearly Rs 80 crore.
Sources in the department said that the action was taken against Manglam Group after it was found that the company had allegedly bought and sold benami properties in the name of its employees who were from scheduled tribe and scheduled caste. Some of these employees were reportedly in the board of directors.
The attached land is measured to be at least 28 hectares and as per the DLC rates, it is worth nearly Rs 21 c rore. The pieces of land were brought over the past eight years.
The department will now issue notices to the owners and investors of these benami properties, seeking details of purchase and sale. If the details were not found satisfactory, a legal action can be initiated and the properties be sealed.
