A constable was mowed down by a car in Harmada

Jaipur: A 35-year-old traffic police constable who was on duty to take action against drunken drivers was mowed down by a car on Sikar Road. The accident happened at Harmada police outpost around 4.50 am on Saturday.

The deceased constable was identified as Sanjay Yadav belonging to Jhunjhunu. After joining the Rajasthan Police in 2006, he was currently posted in Jaipur traffic police.

He was part of a traffic police team deputed in Harmada to check drunken driving and take action against those creating ruckus and overspeeding in the name of New Year celebrations.

Constable Sanjay Yadav was posted Harmada police station on Sikar Road. He was checking vehicles on Saturday morning. An overspeeding car hit Sanjay and sped away after mowing him down. Sanjay, who was seriously injured in the accident, was rushed to the hospital, but he could not be saved.

Sanjay had sent messages of New Year wishes to some of his close fellow policemen around midnight on Saturday.

The body was kept at the mortuary of Kanwatia Hospital for a post-mortem examination and the family members were informed. The police station (West) is investigating the case. The policemen across the city mourned Sanjay’s death.

The police had put up barricades at many places in the city to catch those driving under the influence of alcohol.
