3 killed, 5 injured in road accident on NH-11 near Ratangarh

The truck driver applied breaks suddenly, causing the car to crash into it. Some of the victims were policemen who were on their way to Hanumangarh to mourn the death of a police officer’s family member.

Jaipur: Three people were killed, while five others were injured when the SUV they were travelling in rammed into a truck on National Highway (NH) – 11 in Ratangarh area of Churu district early on Friday. According to preliminary reports, the truck driver applied breaks suddenly, causing the car to crash into it. Some of the victims were policemen who were on their way to Hanumangarh to mourn the death of a police officer’s family member.

The mishap ocured around 2.30 am near Tidiyasar Toll Plaza. Those who died in the accident were identified as Sitaram Gurjar (44), Devalal Gurjar (55) and Ram Sahay Gurjar (49).

The father of ASP Sunil Kumar had died and the victims – some of the policemen – were going to his village to grieve the death and express condolence.

“Prima – facie it seems that the truck driver suddenly applied breaks. It caused the SUV to ram into it. Three people died on the spot, while five others were injured. The bodies of the deceased men have been put in the mortuary of a hospital in Ratangarh. The injured victims were first taken to Ratangarh. They were then referred to a hospital in Bikaner due to their serious condition,” said a police officer.

The accident caused traffic jam. It took the police more than an hour to clear the road blockage.

The police have launched an investigation as to what caused the mishap. The bodies will be handed over to family members after a post-mortem examination.
