2 Jaipur Central Jail officials suspended over murder of Pak prisoner

The officials said that the body is being kept in the mortuary of a government hospital and the post-mortem examination will be conducted in the presence of Pak embassy officials. The embassy had been informed of the incident on Wednesday.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government removed Jaipur jail superintendent and a jailor from duty, while suspended two other prison officials following the murder of Pakistan prisoner Shakir Ullah aka Mohammed Hanif. A brawl broke out among prisoners in the TV room around 1.20 pm on Thursday. Shakir was allegedly hit on his head with a stone.

The officials said that the body is being kept in the mortuary of a government hospital and the post-mortem examination will be conducted in the presence of Pak embassy officials. The embassy had been informed of the incident on Wednesday.

Security has been stepped up at all the prisoners in Rajasthan where Pak nationals are lodged. After the death of Shakir Ullah, there are 18 other Pak prisoners lodged in Rajasthan jails, seven of them in Jaipur alone. Two are lodged in Jodhpur, while one in Kota.

The murder case is being investigated by IG prisons Rupindra Singh. The incharge and warder of the barrack where the Pak prisoner was lodged have been suspended. The incharge was identified as Vaidhanath Sharma, while warder as Ramswaroop.

Jail superintendent Sanjay Yadav and jailere Jagdish Sharma were put on awaiting posting orders. Rakesh Mohan Sharma has replaced Sanjay yadav.

The officials said that the prisoners were watching TV when they got into a fight over its volume. Some prisoners wanted to turn TV down, but other protested. It caused a brawl.
