Jaipur: Rajasthan police’s special operations group (SOG) on Tuesday arrested two men, identified as Baljindar Singh and Pal Singh, for inciting violence in Panchkula after self-proclaimed godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted in a rape case. The duo is considered very close to Ram Rahim.
The two accused men were reportedly arrested from Goluwala Dera in Sriganganagar district. Each of them was carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on their head for inciting violence.
The SOG has handed over the accused to Haryana police after arresting them.
Haryana police had named them in the FIRs registered after the violence. Both disappeared following which cash rewards were announced. Haryana police teams were carrying out searches in many states to arrest them.
The SOG got a tip-off about their presence in Goluwala in Sriganganagar and took them into custody.
A police security guard of Ram Rahim, Om Budania, had also been arrested from Hanumangarh recently. One Pradeep Goyal, a close aide of Honeypreet Insan – the so-called adopted daughter of Ram Rahim – was arrested from Udaipur.
A Panchkula court convicted the self-styled godman in a case of sexual harassment recently. The case, filed in 2002, accuses Ram Rahim of sexually exploiting two women followers at his ashram.
