Jaipur: The state government is finally recruiting pharmacists. Rajasthan Staff Selection Board issued an advertisement on Tuesday, announcing recruitment of 1736 pharmacists in the state. The posts include 1538 vacancies for non- TSP (Tribal Sub Plan) region and 198 vacancies for TSP region.

The online applications for pharmacists’ recruitment will be accepted from August 16. The last date for submission of online application form will be September 15, said Dr.BL Jatawat, chairman of Rajasthan Staff Selection Board.

Nearly 50,000 eligible candidates for these posts have been waiting for recruitments. The decision has come as great news for them.

Eligibility criteria to apply for these posts is Diploma in Pharmacy and the applicant must be registered with the Rajasthan Pharmacy Council as a pharmacist. Recruitments will be done through written examinations, the date of which will be announced after September 15.

As reported earlier, Medical and Health Group-2 had issued an order allowing the recruitment of pharmacists under ‘Free Medicine Scheme’ and approved the recruitment of 2112 pharmacists on the drug distribution centers in the 2013, but for five years the recruitment was stuck.

There are about 17000 drugs distributions centers which operate in government hospitals under the ‘Free Medicine Scheme’ but only 2700 pharmacists are there for distributing medicines. The question aroused as to who is distributing the medicines at rest of the centers. As per the rules of the Pharmacy Act, 1948, the drugs can be distributed only in the presence of a registered pharmacist.

Considering the fact, the Rajasthan government has decided to start the recruitment process for the pharmacist. As estimated, more than 50,00 pharmacists are waiting for the government job in the state for last five years.
