Suicide

Jaipur: An eighth class student committed suicide by hanging himself in Jodhpur’s Basani area. The student allegedly left a suicide note in which he complained of being bullied and too much homework. The family members have registered an FIR against a teacher and two students.

The victim, Ganpat Meghwal, was a student of Class VIII at Shri Yade Sschool in Basani’s Sangaria village. His family stayed in a rented house. The boy wasn’t doing well in school tests and couldn’t keep up with his homework. He was being bullied by some classmates who mocked him for not being able to complete homework. The teachers also used to rebuke him, the family members alleged.

Ganpat returned from school around 2 pm on November 18, had lunch and left home. The family members thought that he had gone to see his friends, but when he didn’t return until late evening, they started looking for him. On November 19, the boy’s father and sister went to his school, but they didn’t find him there as well.

He was eventually found hanging on the first floor of their rented house. “While the ground floor was occupied by the family, the first floor was unoccupied. They found Ganpat hanging from the ceiling there,” said a police officer.

The family members called the police. A team from Basani police station rushed to the spot and found a suicide note.

“He had scribbled a few lines on a piece of paper, accusing a teacher and two students of harassment. An FIR has been registered against the teacher and the students. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.

Ganpat studied at a government school till Class VII. His father moved him to a private school this year thinking that the standard of education would be better.
