Jaipur: The worst fear of parents in Jaipur came true after as many as 12 students of Jayshree Periwal International School tested positive for Covid-19. The school management has closed classes for a week and said that the online classes will be resumed during this period. All the children are asymptomatic and undergoing treatment in home isolation.

The students in day-boarding were tested at the school on a regular basis. A student from Mumbai tested Corona positive, after which samples of other children were also taken by contact tracing. Of these, 12 children have tested positive. All the children are said to be class 11 students. The management then decided to suspend classes for a week.

Online classes will continue during this period so that other children of the school can study from home.

Schools started in Jaipur with 100 percent capacity on November 15. A total of 19 children have been found infected in the city so far in November.

The parents have expressed concerns over the government’s decision to reopen schools with 100% capacity.

“The children are not even vaccinated. How can the government show such a careless attitude and allow schools to reopen,” said a parent. The association of parents has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding that online classes should not be discontinued.

As many as 22 new cases were reported in Rajasthan on Monday, the highest since August.

Education minister BD Kalla said that the schools were reopened based on the advisory issued by the home department.

“We will make a decision in this regard after reviewing the situation in consultation with the home department and the medical and health department,” Kalla told media persons.
