Jaipur: As many as 11,000 legal disputes that involve Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) are pending in various courts. The cases are weighting heavily on the development of the city as many development projects are stuck in legal disputes.

Apathy of JDA officials in speeding up resolution of these disputes is a major reason for these cases dragging on for years.

The Rajasthan government recently expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that nearly 60 percent of these cases are unresolved because JDA officials have not even bothered to file replies and turn up for hearings in courts.

These cases have stalled many important projects including construction of flyovers and railway over bridges, widening of roads and development of sewerage and drainage networks.

Courts have held JDA in contempt over the lack of cooperation from the civic body in getting these disputes resolved. The Rajasthan government recently said that contempt of court cases were cause for concern.

JDA officials try to rescue themselves citing the problem of rampant court stays, but this doesn’t seem to be the problem. Courts have granted stays in less 2% of all the legal disputes involving JDA.

The fact that JDA officials have failed to submit replies in nearly 60% cases is the root of the problem, lawyers said.
