Jaipur: An 11-year-old boy, identified as Faizan, died after he fell into a pit dug up in order to build a badminton court in Shiv Park of Vidhyadhar Nagar sector – 7. The 8-feet deep pit was filled to the brink with water after the pre-monsoon rains recently. The JMC didn’t bother to cover it up causing the tragedy. The family members demanded that a case of criminal negligence be registered against responsible officials and contractor involved in the work.

The incident took place on Tuesday. Faizan, a resident of Vidhyadhar Nagar sector – 8, left home around 10 am. He told his family members that he was going out to play with his friends. When he didn’t return till noon, the family members started a search. They didn’t find him till midnight. Meanwhile, they informed the police and registered a missing person’s report.

The family members got a call from the police station around 11.45 pm on Tuesday. The family members were asked to come to the park. The body was found in the pit there.

“We were informed about a body floating in the pit by some people who had gone to the park for jogging in the evening,” said a police officer.

The officer added that the body was sent for a postmortem examination and handed over to the family members for final rituals.

The family members, relatives and neighbors gathered at JMC’s Vidhyadhar Nagar zonal office accusing the civic body of negligence.

“They didn’t cover up the pit even after it was filled with water after the rains. It’s criminal negligence on part of the JMC officials. They should be brought to book for this,” said Afzal Mohammed, a neighbor.
