11 killed in rain-related mishaps in Rajasthan

Jaipur: At least 11 people including three siblings were killed in rain-related mishaps in the state over the past 48 hours. Heavy rains continued to lash several districts of Rajasthan. Bisalpur dam is on the verge of overflowing due to continuous rains. The met department has sounded an alert and said that moderate to heavy rains will be reported in different parts of the state over the next 48 hours.

In Molasar area of Nagaur district, three children drowned in a pond while playing. They were identified as Basanti (11), Dhanni (8) and Gendi (13). The three were pulled out of the water by the rescue teams and rushed to a hospital. They were declared brought dead by doctors.

The rain-related mishaps were also reported in Bhilwara, Bharatpur, Sawaimadhopur, Kota and Sikar.

The administration has advised people to exercise caution when they visit picnic spots near water bodies.

Bisalpur dam which supplies water to Jaipur and Ajmer districts is about 90% full. It will overflow if the rains continue. The capacity of the dam is 315.50 RL meter and it is already filled with water up to 315.26 RL meter.

The administration has sounded an alert for nearly villages. Officials said they may open the gates to release water and people in nearby villages may be moved if needed.

Jaipurites woke up to a cloudy morning on Sunday. Many spent the weekend by enjoying the weather and greenery at the city’s picnic spots.
