Jaipur: A 17-year-old teenager was killed; while another was injured in yet another hit-and-run accident on JNL Marg in the city. An over-speeding car rammed into a bike at Trimurti Circle, according to preliminary reports. The two riders sustained injuries. One of them died on the spot, while the other is undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.
Overspeeding continues to cause road accidents on JLN Marg despite the police’s tall claims of special drives against this problem. Two earlier accidents claimed four lives on JLN Marg in the recent past. The police claimed that they would increase patrolling on JLN Road to curb over-speeding; however, the Monday incident once again exposed these tall claims.
The teenager who died in the road accident has been identified as Vaibhav Singhal, while 19-year-old injured victim has been identified as Prajval Dangayach.
The police have launched a search for the car driver who escaped from the spot after the mishap.
Sources said that traffic challans were home delivered to more than 2.20 lakh vehicle owners after the cameras installed on JLN Marg detected overspeeding between March 2017 and July 2019.
Over 75% vehicle owners didn’t pay the penalty despite receiving the notices from the traffic department. The police forward these cases to lok adalats.
“We will start collecting the penalty and will take further action against the offenders if they don’t pay under the appropriate sections of the Motor Vehicle Act,” said a police officer.
