Jaipur: Seventy-two-year-old Rajasthan University has seen 35 student union presidents elected. Of them, thirty-four were males, while only one was female. No female contender has been nominated for the post of president this year also. It is despite the fact that 40% of the votes come from female students. The student unions are more focused on caste equations.

The only woman president of Rajasthan University was Prabha Chaudhary, an independent student leader, who was elected in 2011.

The largest number of votes comes from the Maharani college of Rajasthan university. There are about 6500 female voters there. The other departments including law college have more than 8000 female students’ voters.

The total number of voters at the RU is 22,667. Of them, 40% voters are the female students.

Many female students have tried to fight for the top posts, the unions don’t field them.

“ABVP and NSUI should give female student leaders an opportunity to prove their leadership skills. But both the unions focus more on caste equations,” said Anita Singh, a RU student.
